The Necessity of the Cross (9:11-13)
- Jesus underscores the necessity of fulfilling prophecy as the suffering servant who would die for the sins of His people
- Jesus is pointing to John the Baptist as the Elijah who would come first.
- John the Baptist was not only the forerunner to Jesus in preparation, but also in suffering and death.
The Implications of the Transfiguration
- The glory of God was unveiled to the disciples to infuse them with hope.
- The path of Christ’s suffering was unveiled to the disciples to give them a complete picture of the Gospel and their own discipleship path.
- We can embrace Christ’s complete picture of the Gospel and His call of discipleship, knowing that glory awaits us (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).
